Emerald Dunes Golf Course Plans to Turn Private

The best thing to happen to The Villas at Emerald Dunes might be the February sale of the adjacent golf course.

A joint-venture partnership that includes John Haas paid $20.3 million for Emerald Dunes near West Palm Beach and said it plans to turn the public course private.

"We're looking at it very favorably," said Nancy Cardone, an official with Illustrated Properties, which is marketing the project for developer Allen Greenwald of Coral Gables. "To be able to look at a private golf club is very rare."

The development includes 486 units priced from the $180,000s to the low $300,000s.

The first phase, which sold out in 45 days, is due to be complete this summer.

The second phase goes on sale in April and should be finished by December.
